PART 1: ANALOGUE
TUTOR: Ben Sibley, Kris Bird 2021 Winter
Work from Design Visualisation: Analogue. First half of design specialization DV in MSD promotes non-digital visualization approaches, featuring fine art & physical modelling medias.

An ink watercolor visualization on the theme of still objects under strong natural lighting conditions. The visualization depicts the varied lighting qualities on thick reflective materials.

A conventional watercolor visualization on the theme of still objects. The visualization adopts an impressionism approach in prioritizing the anthropocentric mood upon restoration of natural colors.

The model attempts to visualize a on going construction site of a neo-brutalism building, with a corridor setting and an extension into courtyard. Thus the scene itself has this strong rigid vibe led by heavy concrete and other raw materials, meanwhile the lighting of site is dominated by the french window plated with frosted glass at the end of corridor. It's this scene of raw unfinished materials, mass of unbuilt components, stained scaffolds that turns into nearly silhouettes under the single strong lighting at the far end which the model and it's render truly wants to depict, that monochrome is used to strengthen the effect of lighting, which draw lessons from Craig's Hamlet set render from precedent study of previous Assignment 1.
Besides, the render aims to avoid any clear depiction on details, but rather to use this ink wash feature to build the overall order of light & shadow relations. This is designed to accomplish to "vagueness" vibe of scene, that a distance of uncertainty is also given to viewers, which the finished model serves more as complement of finished details that presents less in render due to its aimed vibe.
